Newly typeset edition of one of the scarcest Burlingame titles. Originally published in 1891, it is really three books in one, the first being the reminiscences of Baron Hartwig Seeman (shown in the frontispiece image shown here), a 19th century Swedish-born magician who died in Kosse, Texas in 1886.
Anecdotes include his performance of a remarkable bullet catch in Egypt, adventures touring with violinist Ole Bull (including an account of Ole Bull's encounter with Herr Alexander in New Orleans), the story of Martin Luther's wedding ring (owned by Seeman). etc.
The second is the story of William D'Alvini, British juggler and magician who was billed as Japanese and toured to rave reviews as a supporting act with with Alexander and Kellar.
The third is a reprint of psychologist Max Dessoir's monograph on the psychology of conjuring (with added references by Burlingame to mediums).
Finally, there is a brief chapter on the original Bellachini (1828-1885), court magician to Kaiser Wilhelm the first.
Barrie Richardson has added a new introduction pointing out some highlights of the book. Included are reproductions of Seeman and D'Alvini promotional materials and programs.
Limited to just 300 copies, this reprint is very reasonably priced and will be welcomed by those with an interest in magic history. Hardbound, 132 pages
